You’ve been told your whole life that candy is bad for your teeth, and sadly, that is the truth. Those lovely little colorful pieces of candy can cause enamel erosion, as well as cavities and tooth decay. Simple oral hygiene habits such as brushing and flossing twice every day can give you peace of mind, but if you are having a day where you eat more sugar than usual, there are a few other things you can do as added preventative measures.
Rinsing your mouth with water after you eat sweets can help wash away surface sugars, as well as cleanse your mouth. It is ideal to brush your teeth after you eat sweets, but if you don’t have access to a toothbrush, rinsing with water is a good alternative.
You can also chew sugarless gum after you eat sweets to help clean the surface areas of your teeth. Whatever you choose, make sure you are brushing your teeth at least twice a day for optimal dental health.
